How Executive Coaching Works
Executive coaching aims to enhance an individual's leadership performance and capability through effective and informed conversation between the coach and manager.
The coach asks questions, listens deeply, offers non-judgemental feedback, raises awareness, makes suggestions, explores assumptions and feelings, and so on. The purpose of the coaching relationship is to help the manager to achieve one or more of the following:
- clarify the choices that they can make to solve problems and/or exploit opportunities
- enhance their personal contribution and commitment
- unlock and develop their own, and the organisation's, capability to perform
- increase their ability to deal with the complexities, conflicts and tensions that are characteristic of all organisations
- lead change more effectively
- identify and realise their career aspirations
- rebuild and/or strengthen the key connections that are critical to their own and others' performance
- influence the business context, culture and climate within which they are operating.
